renovations!
As mentioned on the Home page, we are now well into a major renovation of Lerigoligan cottage itself. We are expecting it to be completed during 2012.
We are planning to retain the character of the original building while adding an upstairs bathroom, a utility room, a completely new heating system with solar panels and 2 new bedrooms on the ground to the west of the existing building. The new stairs will go up from the back extension hallway, where the old back door used to be. See Floor Plans.
The cottage will still have 4 bedrooms. Two of those will be the former attic bedrooms in the old cottage. The two new bedrooms will be in the new extension, out to the west. They will have views of the loch and sliding doors that go out onto decking. All the bedrooms will have the option of having twin beds or a large double bed.
Heating will be underfloor, powered by an air-source heat pump and solar thermal panels. The heat pump has now been installed and is drying out the building after a very wet autumn. The house will also have significant solar gain from the re-built sun-porch and new glass link, which is a glass-fronted wedge situated between the old cottage and the new extension. With the existing open fire, a new wood-burning stove in the kitchen, and the new underfloor heating system, we expect the new Lerigoligan will be very cosy all year round.

The whole of the ground floor will be on one level and the new extension shower room will disabled-friendly.
We will definitely have wi-fi access for guests and we are working on how to make TV available to those who want it. We will still have a piano.
During the renovation, we have been using the Bothy as a living space for ourselves. Although we want to encourage the use of the Bothy as a workshop space for small groups, especially in the winter months, we are still working out how much to make it available to guests as a games room.
